Ryen Jacob Zerfas, 26, of Watertown, SD formerly of Brookings, SD passed away Sunday, November 24, 2019. Mass of Christian Burial will be 2:00pm, Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Brookings, SD. Visitation will be from 5:00pm to 7:00pm Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at Rude’s Funeral Home, Brookings, SD. In Lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be directed to the Hudson Michael Zerfas Trust Fund, Ryen’s son, at Wells Fargo, Brookings, SD.
Ryen Jacob Zerfas was born September 4, 1993 in Brookings, SD the son of David Michael and Stacey Lynne (Sebbo) Zerfas. He grew up and attended school in Brookings, SD, graduating from Brookings High School in 2012. After graduating, Ryen played hockey for the Alexandria Blizzard, Alexandria, MN and for the Steel in New Ulm, MN. He went on to coach hockey in the Twin Cities before returning home to Brookings, SD.
Ryen was a recipient of the Build Dakota Scholarship and attended Lake Area Technical Institute, Watertown, SD. He received a Construction Management Degree and was employed through Mills Construction and was a part of building the new School of Nursing building at Lake Area Technical Institute.
While living in Watertown, he met the love of his life, Kierstin Bublitz and his legacy will be carried on by his son, Hudson Michael Zerfas.
Ryen’s hobbies included; hunting, hockey, softball, family games and tossing bean bags and he loved watching movies and attending concerts.
Ryen had the most amazing zest for life, family and friendship. Ryen was so proud to be a dad and seeing him with Hudson was viewing pure love. Why he left us we will never understand, but we will always carry him in our hearts.
Ryen is survived by his son, Hudson Michael Zerfas of Watertown, SD; girlfriend, Kierstin Bublitz of Watertown, SD; his mother, Stacey Zerfas of Brookings, SD; his brother, Austen Zerfas of Brookings, SD; his sister, Ally Zerfas of Brookings, SD; his grandmother, Diann Zerfas of Brookings, SD and his aunt, Deb Froehlich of Sioux Falls, SD along with many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, David Michael Zerfas in 2011; his grandparents, LeRoy and Dorothy Sebbo and Stephen “Zerf” Zerfas.
