Abbey Suzanne Bauer, age 41, of Brookings, passed away Friday, December 23, 2022, at home from a short battle with cancer. Visitation will be from 4-7 P.M. on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at Eidsness Funeral Home. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, December 28th at GracePoint Wesleyan Church with burial to follow at St. William's Cemetery in Aurora. Abbey Suzanne Buchholtz Bauer was born on October 26, 1981, to Dennis and Gwen (Gilbertson) Buchholtz in Brookings, SD. She attended Hillcrest Elementary and Brookings High School. While in high school, Abbey participated in basketball, volleyball, and softball. She never passed the softball fields without bringing up her famous homerun.
After high school, Abbey attended Stewart’s Beauty School, and became a beautician in Aberdeen, SD, for the next 17 years. In 2006, Abbey married Andrew Bauer, and the couple was blessed with twin boys, Briggs and Bennett. Abbey and Andrew later divorced, and Abbey moved to Brookings in 2017. While in Brookings, Abbey worked for 20/20 Family Vision and for the Aurora Quick Stop.
Abbey was a member of New Life Church in Aberdeen GracePoint Wesleyan Church in Brookings. She was also active in the Brookings Swim Club. Abbey enjoyed scrapbooking, shopping with her mom, attending music concerts, and especially loved spending time with her family and twin boys at all of their activities.
Survivors include her sons; Briggs and Bennett; her parents, Dennis (Gwen) Buchholtz; siblings, Joshua Buchholtz and his children Ames & Cavan Buchholtz, and Ted Buchholtz; special friend, Ryan Bevers; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Abbey was preceded in death by her grandparents, Lawrence (Josephine) Gilbertson and Henry (Alice) Buchholtz.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to help with Briggs’ and Bennett’s college funds.
