With a 3rd Place finish at the C at the Hall of Fame Stadium Complex to and 2nd at E Northern in Mandan as well as other good showings at both plus the D, it was a very good weekend for South Dakota men's slowpitch.
At the C in OKC, South Dakota was represented by 2 teams, Dakota Bus of Spearfish and Tryon Nation.Peper Farm Trucking of Sioux Falls.
Dakota Bus made their 1st trip the Stadium and were competitive in both games, losing to Kass & Co 22 to 7 and dropping the second game 14 to 10. I am sure the Bus is already planning another trip in the next year or so, once they got the taste of the Stadium.
Tryon Nation/Peper Farm has been a power in USA Softball of Sd for years now and everyone said the could be their year to show it at a national level and they certainly did not disappoint. They made the most of their trip to the Stadium this year coming up 1 run short to get to the ship.
They started out with a 16 to 14 win over Bash Inc. on their way to a 6-2 record and a 3rd place finish. They then won 13 to 8 over Demars before dropping a game to California's Budweiser 21 to 14.
But that loss was not going to keep the Nation down as they reeled off 4 wins in a row. 12 to 4 over Kass & Co., 16-9 over Russel Paint, then dropped Pipac 16 to10 and then took it the Bud team that put them in the bottom bracket by a score of 18 to 3.
That led up to a very entertaining game against our neighbors to the south T's 13 of Omaha. the T's 13 took a lead and held it but the Nation was up for the challenge battling back in the bottom of the 7th before stranding the tieing run on third before the final out.
TJ McCauley of Rapid City plays for the T's13 of Omaha, which also beat Army Black twice to win the tournament of 36 teams.
In the D at Rochester, Sioux Falls Aftermath had a good run by going 4-2 and finishing in the top 17 of the 52 team tournament.
They did it by winning the 1st game 6 to 5 of A&B Transmission, then lost a close one to Bud/Shameless 16 to 15.
But Aftermath was not done as they top Not Justa Cafe 17-12, Indiana Tech 7-0, and Jake's Bar 15 to 4. Their 2nd loss came to a team carrying the same name Aftermath of ND 17 to 10.
In the E at Mandan, Lagers/Coors Light of Aberdeen also finished in the top 17 of a 35 team tournament. They lost the 1st game 14-9 to IES/Fischer then made a 3 game run by winning 13 -9, 27-7, and 16-6 to ENG Lending, Hugo's, Skeels respectively. the Lincoln Rebels were their nemesis losing 20 to 8.
Hazardous of Sioux Falls were the highest finishers this weekend taking 2nd at the Mandan event. They also went 6-2, winning the first six by scoring 70 runs. They opened with a squeaker with a 7-6 win over KC Esto, then the bats came to work.
They had wins over Team Beaver 10-3, Smoqehouse 12-2, sportsman 13-7, Ranger Lounge 11-7, and then a tight one with Dickinson Law 17 to 16 to put them in the ship.
Dickinson Law won the 3rd place game to come back to play the Sioux Falls squad. The 1 game rest was not good to the Hazardous bats as the North Dakota squad went on to win the tourney with a 9-3 and 16-6 contest against the out of staters.
