** Team classification guidelines will be followed; any changes are at the discretion of the SD USA JO State Board. Area commissioners and local leagues will be consulted if questions on team classifications arise.
The criteria below will be used as a guideline when determining classification of play.
Class A Teams – are highly competitive travel teams that may be formed by tryouts/recruitment. They have more than one good pitcher or one that can dominate the game. They place high in their league or finish in the upper half of A tournaments that they enter. These teams would qualify for advancement to the USA/ASA “A” National Championships or to the Northern National ASA “A” National Championship in their age division.
Class B Teams – are good, above average teams, but do not dominate the opposition with their pitching. In most invitational tournaments, these teams may win 1 –2 games. They may have one or two pitchers, of which one is somewhat better than the other. These teams would qualify for advancement to the USA/ASA “B” National Championships or to the Northern National ASA “B” National Championship in their age division.
Class C Teams - are strictly recreational teams that compete only in league sponsored tournaments.
**Pick up players for ANY classification of play must be picked up from the same classification division or below.
The 1st and 2nd place teams in the B or C division from the previous year State tournament will automatically be moved to the next classification; if remaining in the same age bracket and retains 5 returning players from the previous year’s team.
