One of the biggest tournaments to hit Madison will begin to play Friday night. The 2018 Interlakes Youth Fastpitch Invitational will start at 5:30 p.m. at Baughman-Belatti Field.
The tournament will conclude on Sunday with nine champions being crowned.
There are 56 teams competing in this year's tournament.
"We started with 25 teams," said tournament director Trudy O'Connell. "Most of the teams that will be playing are recreational teams and not club teams."
There are five divisions for the tournament: 10U, 12U, 14U, 16U and 18U. Madison will have teams in each division except the 18U division.
Teams from Madison that will be playing in the 10U division are Baseliners, Trojans and Wildcats.
Madison Thunderstruck, SWAT and After Shock will be battling in the 12U division.
Madison Hot Shots and Fury will be in the 14U division. Madison Rage will be in the 16U division.
The tournament will begin on Friday with 13 games starting at 5:30 p.m. at Baughman-Belatti Field. There will be five 10U games. Madison Trojans and Colman play at 5:30 p.m. on Diamonds 3 and 2, respectively, while Chester plays at 6:45 p.m. on Diamond 2.
All three Madison 12U teams will be playing on Diamond 5, starting at 5:30 p.m. with Thunderstruck, SWAT at 7 p.m. and After Shock at 8 p.m.
Both Madison teams in the 14U will be in action on Diamond 4 with Madison Hot Shots at 5:30 p.m. and Madison Fury at 8:30 p.m.
Madison Rage will be in action at 7 p.m. on Diamond 1.
There will be no admission charge Friday night.
The tournament will resume on Saturday at 8 a.m. at Baughman-Belatti Field and the Thue Softball Complex. Games will run throughout the day with the last game starting at 8 p.m.
Games will begin at all of the softball diamonds at 8 a.m. on Sunday with the championship games starting at 2 and 3:30 p.m.
There is a $5 admission charge for all day on both Saturday and Sunday. Children under 5 years old are free.
