Roosevelt claimed its fourth state softball title in the last five years Saturday afternoon with a 7-6 win over Lincoln at Sherman Park.
It was a back-and-forth affair between the in-city rivals.
Down 1-0 early, Mackenzie Risnes sparked a four-run fourth-inning rally for the Rough Riders who took their first lead of the game heading into the 5th. That lead was short-lived, however, as Lincoln responded with three runs of its own to even the score at 4-4 after five.
Shayla Running gave Roosevelt the lead for good in the top of the sixth with a two-run single. Moments later, Grace Glanzer capped the three-run inning with a solo home run. It was the fourth homer of the tournament for Glanzer, who hit a walk-off two-run homer against Lincoln in the semifinals earlier in the day.
The Patriots refused to go down without a fight, driving home a couple runs in the bottom of the seventh, but Roosevelt hung on to win.
