Watertown Boy's Slowpitch Team Serves Veterans on Saturday
"On behalf of the Sodak Construction/1st Premier Bank Boy's 14U Softball team we’d like to thank Hy-Vee for thinking of us to help today." said Coach Sam Moponey "We’d also like to thank all the Vets out there who put their boots on the ground so we can put our cleats in the field. God Bless"
The boys and their coaches volunteered to work the feed. The Sodak team raised fund last summer to go play in the 14U Nationals in Indiana. This and other community events that they have volunteered to work for is a way to pay back.
SOme those events are:
They were put up for auction to raise funds for Angie Davis Bass who is battling cancer (worked for 3 hours at Joy Ranch)
Built float and participated in Codington County Cares Cancer Parade.
Teamed up with Lane’s Legacy to raise awareness of Down’s Syndrome
Participated in a Military Appreciation Softball Tournament where all funds go to an SD military family
Volunteered another 2 hours at Joy Ranch to help prep for their Halloween activities
Veterans day volunteer at HY-VEE to bus tables and serve drinks for Vets
Currently working with Lanes Legacy to provide Thanksgiving meals to families in need
Planning to do the same for Christmas
"It was an honor and a privilege to be around so many heroes today." Mooney added "I’m amazed at the ability of the staff at the Watertown Hy-Vee. They served hundreds of Vets today free of charge and they did such an amazing job! Every Vet we talked to today was incredibly kind and patient."
