Frank Richard Funk the son of Edward and Mary Jane (Chaon) Funk was born on July 24, 1941 in Aberdeen, South Dakota. He graduated from Conde SD High School in 1959 where he excelled in all sports. He attended Northern State College in 1960. In 1961 he went to work in missile sites driving gravel trucks.
In 1963 he married BonNae Barrie and returned to Conde where he purchased Frank’s Place and worked for the Conde Lumberyard. Throughout the next 29 years he remained active as a player and a sponsor in softball and was inducted into the South Dakota Softball Hall of Fame in 1989. Frank was a very active member of the community and was well known to many as a friend and would go out of his way to help anyone in need.
Frank spent the last 10 years involved in Alcoholics Anonymous in Watertown SD where he was always willing to sit and listen to people struggling with substance abuse. He was very passionate about finding peace and forgiveness and spent a lot of his own time organizing and hosting meetings.
Frank passed away on Sunday, July 31, in Watertown South Dakota at the age of 75.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother Edward Funk.
He is survived by a son Jamie and wife Jeannine of Dickinson ND, daughter Julie Pigors of Aberdeen SD, daughter Jill and husband Dave Chickering of Vermillion SD, and daughter Jaci and husband Dan Pastian, 13 grandchildren and 3 great-grand-children.
