Mona Reed, age 99, of Sioux Falls, SD passed away on Friday, August 27, 2021 at Avera McKennan Hospital, Sioux Falls. Mass of Christian Burial will be 2:00 PM Friday, September 3rd at St. Lambert Catholic Parish, Sioux Falls. Public Visitation will be from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM on Thursday, September 2nd with a Wake and Rosary Service starting at 7:00 PM at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory, Sioux Falls.
Mona Kathleen Ballinger was born on May 1, 1922 to Thomas and Lola (Frame) Ballinger in Swan Hill, Victoria, Australia.
Mona attended Sacred Heart College in Ballarat and then worked at the telephone company switchboard in Ballarat and Melbourne during WW II.
Mona was united in marriage to Walter Reed on June 16, 1945 in Ballarat, Victoria, Australia. From this union, they were blessed with six children.
Mona loved sports and played basketball, tennis and softball. She belonged to a War Brides group for many years and was known for hosting many tea parties. She was an active member of Little Flower parish. Mona and her husband, Walt, enjoyed ballroom dancing nearly every Saturday night that they were able.
Grateful for having shared her life are her daughters, Kaye (Warren) Huber of Sioux Falls, Denise (Bryan) Iglehart of Bar Nunn, WY, Keryl (Gene) Erickson of Cave Creek, AZ, Pamela Dannelley of Omaha, NE, and Renae Reed of Sioux Falls; sister, Pat Askwith of Ballarat, Australia, brother Jack (Dawn) Ballinger of Hahndorf, So. Australia, and sister-in-law, Madeline Ballinger of Ballarat, Australia; eight grandchildren, Kristin (Kevin) Browne, Kevin (Melissa) Huber, Karin Reisch, Meegan (Matt) Vellek, Jennifer (Doug) Tucker, and baby boy on the way, Ryne Erickson, Lynsee (Lucas) Dowden, and Lexi Iglehart; 14 great-grandchildren, Kody Browne, Kyle Browne, Kailey Browne, Ava Huber, Maxwell Huber, Madeline Reisch, Peyton Reisch, Kyler Goude, Kendall Goude, Taylor Tucker, Madison Tucker, Camden Vellek, Carsen, and Cohen Vellek. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews in Australia.
Mona was preceded in death by her husband, Walter (October 13, 2002); infant son, Edward; parents, Thomas and Lola; sister, Sr. Dorothea (June), brother, Thomas Ballinger; and brother-in-law, Raymond Askwith.
